Beloved New York singer-songwriter Willie Nile’s new single, “Wake Up America,” featuring guest vocals by none other than Steve Earle, is released today Oct 20th. The track also features Linda Ronstadt’s long-time guitar player Waddy Wachtel; John Mayer and Steven Van Zandt keyboard player Andy Burton, singer songwriter James Maddock and others. It’s a powerful statement on our collective beliefs as Americans and a call to action for us all to "wake up" and help to right this ship. Recorded at Hobo Sound in Weehawken, NJ & Electric Lady Studios in New York the song was produced by Stewart Lerman, Willie Nile and Jimi K. Bones. Steve Earle appears courtesy of New West Records.

Says Nile –

I wrote this song because I still believe in the dream that is America. Even though our history is riddled with pain and injustice & the divisions between us are greater than ever, I know we can do better than this. There’s a lot of wrongs that need to be righted and we can do that if we work together, neighbor to neighbor, and make our voices heard at the polls. There’s been a lot of hurt and there will be more hurt to come if we don’t do the right thing and start treating each other with respect. We’re bigger and better than this and we need to get out there and vote and prove it.

Heartfelt thanks to Steve Earle for bringing his beautiful ragged, gritty, street-wise voice to it. He brings the heart & soul & the fight to it, the fight we need now, to unearth our better angels & to make this a better place for all of us. We need to vote like our lives depend on it, like the life of our democracy depends on it, because it does. Here’s to neighbor helping neighbor. Here’s to looking out for the other guy. Here’s to our better angels.

And thanks to my band for helping bring this song to life. Jimi K. Bones, Johnny Pisano, Jon Weber, along with Waddy Wachtel, Andy Burton, James Maddock and Frankie Lee. I’m a lucky guy to have such brilliant musicians help me get this done. Let’s hope the country’s as lucky in the days and times ahead.
